Sifu Hal Asbury

Sifu Hal Asbury has been involved in martial arts for over 30 years. After years of training in Tang Soo Do, he began training in Hung Ga under Master Frank Yee in 1985, studying forms, fighting techniques, lion dance and injury medicine. Sifu Asbury has been a Sifu of this art since 1990 and is an indoor disciple of Master Yee; he is also a fourth generation lineage holder from Wong Fei Hung. In addition to his Hung Ga training, he is an instructor in Xing Yi Quan and Ba Gua Zhang, having trained in these arts for more than ten years with acupuncturist, author, and martial artist Tom Bisio. This training included qigong, pushing hands, throwing, locking techniques, and full contact sparring. Sifu Asbury learned Qigong both for health and physical rehabilitation, Tui Na (Chinese Medical Massage) and Zheng Gu joint mobilizations with Tom as well. Sifu Asbury has a Masters degree in Oriental Medicine from Touro College, and is a practicing acupuncturist and herbalist. Sifu Asbury's wide perspective and long teaching experience give him a unique grasp of both theory and practice of kung fu, and an ability to make use of both internal and external principles in a practical way. Sifu Asbury does not believe there is a split between theory and practice in kung fu; he believes that Hung Ga Kung Fu, Xing Yi Quan, and Ba Gua Zhang are practical for use in both training and real fighting, if understood and trained properly.

Under Sifu Frank Yee he has earned many titles in numerous competitions. Sifu Chris has been a New York City Police Officer for 9 years, and currently is a Detective in the Narcotics division. Drawing from the countless assaults, fights and other street altercations that he has encountered in his professional life, Chris has developed a very practical, specialized self-defense routine.
